Five years ago, it started with an idea from a little girl named Eleanor Johnson who submitted an idea to the City to host a tree lighting. For Eleanor, the tree lighting isn’t just about decorating a tree with lights; it’s about creative a space where the community can come together. She approached the City Council with her idea and the City was eager to help. This year we will have tree lighting on Sunday, December 8th at 6:00 PM. Residents can gather by the tree and place an ornament on the tree to hang throughout the holiday season. Hot chocolate will be donated by Hy-Vee and Santa will be in the atrium area behind the library.
