PERMIT PORTAL
Before starting any construction project, it's essential to understand local building codes and permit requirements. A permit is typically required for:
* New Construction (homes, commercial buildings, accessory structures)
* Additions and major renovations (room expansions and basement finishing)
* Structural changes (removing or adding walls, altering load-bearing structures)
* Roof and Siding Work
* Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Work
* Decks, patio covers, porches (replace and replacement)
* Swimming pools or hot tubs
* Retaining walls over 4 feet high
* Demolition of structures

APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Submit a permit application with construction plans/drawings and site plan through the online permit portal.
2. Download the Permit Checklist for direction on how to submit with your application.
3. City Staff and the Building Inspector will perform a plan review of the submitted construction documents and will provide notes and/or approval prior to permit issuance.
4. A plan review fee will be charged for all new construction, additions, remodels and accessory buildings.
5. In addition to a building permit, if the scope of your proposed project includes, plumbing, mechanical, or electrical, a separate permit application must be submitted for each trade.
6. All permit applications must be paid in full prior to the issuance of the permit and work beginning. Payments can be taken Pay online or by phone at 563.556.7106 or in-person.
Once work is completed, the contractor is required to call for inspection of work. For inspections call ECIA 24 hours prior to inspection at 563.556.4166. All new construction homes are required to be equipped with dual-sensor smoke detectors as required by the State Fire Marshal.
