Update - June 5, 2026
The Project shall consist of the removal of existing pavement and the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Hales Mill Road and Asbury Road. The Project shall also consist of curb and gutter improvements; minor sidewalk improvements; minor utility improvements; turf and driveway reconstruction; and necessary excavation, grading, subbase preparation, landscaping and other work incidental thereto at the following location in the City of Asbury, Iowa: The intersection of Hales Mill Road and Asbury Road extending approximately 300 feet along Asbury Road west of the intersection, and extending approximately 200 feet along Asbury Road east of the intersection, and extending approximately 200 feet along Hales Mill Road north of the intersection. The project was awarded to Valentine Construction Company in the amount of $1,138,869.63.
Update:
Construction will begin on the roundabout at the intersection of Hales Mill Road and Asbury Road June 1.
The Hales Mill Road intersection with Asbury Road will be closed during the construction period. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Asbury Road will remain open throughout the duration of the project. For residents frequently travelling through the area, please use caution. Traffic control, and temporary traffic lanes will change multiple times during construction.
For traffic traveling needing access to Hales Mill Road north of Springreen Drive, a detour will be in place along Springreen Drive. The detour provides access to Wagner Nursery and Lord of Life Church during the construction period.
Bypassing the detour, moving detour signage and using private driveways and parking lots is prohibited. Violators will be fined in accordance with City of Asbury Ordinance.
There will also be several crew members working on site every day, along with the presence of various equipment and construction materials. Travel through the site with caution to assist with keeping all project personnel and members of the public safe.
Throughout the duration of the project, you may notice markings and flagging for existing public and private utilities. These markings are used to identify utility conflicts and warn the Contractor to the presence of underground lines or piping. Please leave these utility markings and flags in place and undisturbed.
MSA surveyors will also periodically visit the site to place construction stakes. Construction stakes that are placed by MSA’s survey crew provide important information to the construction crews, so we ask that residents please refrain from moving or damaging survey stakes during construction.
Throughout construction, there may be short and unplanned interruptions to water service for some properties near the project site. If this occurs, the Contractor will repair the damaged lines as quickly as possible to restore service.
This project will challenge Asbury residents and many others who travel through this intersection daily. Your patience is appreciated as Valentine Construction, the City of Asbury, and MSA work together for a successful and timely completion of this project.
